MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES
James M. Bishop
James M. Bishop appears from Census records of 1860 to have been a brother to Amos Bishop. That Census shows James living in the household of which Amos Bishop, age 25, is listed as head of household. Also in that household: Olif Bishop, age 24, presumably Amos's wife, and three children–William E., age 5, Edward, age 3, and Elisabeth, 7 months. James M. Bishop is listed at age 18. The household used the post office at Holly Creek.
James enlisted as a Private, Company C, 11th Georgia Infantry, Anderson Brigade, July 3, 1861. His unit participated in military engagements at Fairfax, Yorktown, Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, and Bull Run–all in Virginia, during 1861 and 1862. Military records indicate that James died of measles in 1862 but does not specify where he died.
