MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

Thomas Cole

Thomas Cole was born about 1841 in Georgia. The 1850 Murray County Census lists his family as follows: William Cole, age 40; Lucy L. Cole, age 33; Elizabeth A. Cole, age 12; Martha K. Cole, 11; Thomas Cole, age 9; Caroline Cole, age 6; Owen H. Cole, age 5; William Cole, age 3; and Mary F. Cole, less than one year old. All of the family was born in Georgia.

By 1860 the family was living in District 10 of Whitfield County, using the post office at Rural Vale.

Thomas enlisted as a Private in Company B, 39th Georgia Cummings Volunteers, on March 10, 1862. He probably was not involved in any fighting because his unit had no military engagements between his enlistment and death. Private Thomas Cole died in a military hospital at Ringgold, Georgia, December 19, 1962.
