MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

Alfred Green

Alfred Green was born in 1836, the third son of William W. and Hannah Green. The family used the post office at Rock Creek.

The Census of 1850 listed the family as: William W. Green, age 37; Hannah Green, age 33; Henry H. Green, age 16; Jesse N. Green, age 14; Alfred Green, age 12; Susan E. Green, age 11; Louisa T. Green, age 9; Mary A. Green, age 7; Laura A. Green, age 4; Sealey A. Green, age 2; and Sarah A. Green, less than 1 year old.

When the Census of 1860 was taken, Alfred, age 24, had a wife, Elisabeth, age 19, and a son, William F. Green, age 1.

Confederate Army records indicate that Alford (different spelling than on the Census) Green enlisted as a Private in Company B, 39th Georgia Cummings Volunteers March 10, 1862. Although the records state that he died August 15, 1862, while still on active duty, they give no details about his death.
