MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

Jacob Headrick, Jr.

Jacob Headrick was born about 1840 in Tennessee, the son of Jacob and Mary Headrick. He and two of his brothers served in the Union Army during the Civil War. All three survived the war and returned to live in Murray County after the conflict.

Jacob served in Company A, 8th Tennessee Volunteers Mounted Infantry. His military records listed his family name as Hedricks. Some Census records listed his family name as Heddrick. His gravestone in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Tennga, Georgia, is inscribed: Jacob Headrick, Company A, 8th Tenn. Infantry. It has no birth or death date. And there is no marker for his wife, Harriet.

In the 1870 Census, the family was living at Spring Place. Jacob Heddrick, age 30; Harriet, age 28; William, age 8; Ann, age 4; Mary age 3; Lovely, age 2; and Lucy, 9 months.

The 1880 Census listed 5 additional children: Frances, age 8, Sarah, age 7; Jackson, age 5; Minessota (Minnesota), age 3; and Martin, 3 months.
