MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

James A. Henry

James A. Henry was born in Tennessee about 1847.

His family was living in Murray County, Georgia, when the 1860 Census was taken, using the post office at Upper Kings Bridge. That Census listed the family members as: James Henry, age 47; Elisabeth Henry, age 46; Anna Henry, age 20; Andrew A. Henry, age 15; James A. Henry, age 13; Rutha J. Henry, age 7; and Mary C. Henry, age 5.

Civil War records in the Murray County, Georgia Courthouse indicate that James Henry enlisted as a private in Company E, 60th Georgia Lawton's Brigade. They state that he was killed in fighting at Winchester, Virginia, but do not give a date. Company E, 60th, was involved in fighting at Winchester in May 1862 and again in mid-June, 1863.

The family had moved to Bradley County, Tennessee, before the 1870 Census was taken. That Census lists the father's name as James M. Henry and the mother's name as Elizabeth J. Henry. They were using the post office at Cleveland, Tennessee in 1870.
