His actual name might have been Willie Looney as recorded in the 1850 Census, or Wily Looney as recorded in the 1860 Census, or I Looney as recorded in his military records.

This man was born about 1842 in Georgia, the son of Joseph C. and Permelia Looney who lived near Spring Place. The 1850 Census listed the family as: Joseph C., age 43; Permelia, age 43; Martha, age 18; Mary, age 16; Benjamin, age 12; Adaline, age 10; Willie, age 8, Jephah, age 6; and Harriet Looney, age 2. Every member of this family was born in Georgia.

For reasons unknown, the 1860 Census showed Wily Looney, then age 18, living in home of John H. and Margrett Walls, using the post office at Spring Place.

Confederate Army records indicate that I. Looney, of Murray County, Georgia, enlisted as a Private, Company C, 11th Georgia Infantry. Date of enlistment is not given.

He died at Lynchburg, Virginia, February 13, 1863, and was buried there in Cemetery #1, 5th Line, Lot 195.
