John Luffman


This particular John Luffman was born about 1839 in North Carolina. His family moved to Murray County before the 1850 Census was taken.

The 1850 Murray County Census listed the family as: M. H. Luffman, age 36; Larthena, age 33; John, age 12; Nancy, age 9, Elizabeth, age 6.

The family lived at Holly Creek when the 1860 Census was taken. This recorded the following information: Mark H. Luffman, age 45; Marthena Luffman, age 42; John Luffman, age 21; Nancy Luffman, age 18; Eliza Luffman, age 14; Mary J. Luffman, age 7; William Luffman, age 5; Annie M. Luffman, age 2.

On March 1, 1862, John Luffman enlisted as a Private in Company C, 11th Georgia Infantry. He died of disease some ten weeks after enlisting, at Medical College in Richmond, Virginia. Date of death: May 15, 1862.

He was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Section G, Number 82, in Richmond, Virginia
