The 1850 Census listed B. F. Miller, age 23, school teacher, born in South Carolina, with his wife, Martha S. Miller, age 22, born in Georgia, living in the home of her parents: Jeffrey and Rachel Pittman, in Murray County.

The Pittman family also appeared the 1840 Census living in Murray.

B. F. was Benjamin F. Miller.

By the time the 1860 Census was taken, B. F. had a new occupation. He was not longer a school teacher but a physician. That Census showed the family using the post office at Chickamauga.

The 1860 Census listing: F. B. Miller, age 34, Physician; Marths S. Miller, age 32; Caira Miller, age 9; Rachael Miller, age 7; Martha Miller, age 4; and Lucy Miller, age 1.

Family tradition states that he enlisted in the Union Army and served as a physician throughout his tour of duty. Unable to confirm that he served in the Union Army.
