James Oglesby


James Oglesby was born in North Carolina about 1836. His family moved to Georgia about 1844.

The 1850 Census listed them as: Shadrack, age 45; Nancy, age 46; Frances A., age 18; Harriet J., age 16; James M., age 14; William A., age 12; Jesse H., age 8; Franklin A., age 6; Martha E., age 4, and Nancy Oglesby, age 2. The Census taker spelled the family name Ogilvly.

Confederate Army records indicate that James Oglesby, of Murray County, Georgia, enlisted as a Private, in Company B, 39th Georgia Cummings Volunteers on March 10, 1862. They also state that he died at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, October 28, 1862. No details of his death are given.
