MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

James Pack

James Pack was born in South Carolina about 1805. His wife, Mary, about a year younger, was also born in South Carolina.

They were listed in the 1850 Census living in Murray County. James, age 45; Mary, age 44; Laura, age 9; and Matilda, age 7. The two daughters had been born in Georgia.

Note the great disparity in age information between the two Censuses.

The 1860 Census listed James, age 47; Eliza, age 43; and Matilda Pack, age 16. The family used the post office at Rock Creek

Confederate Army records indicate that James J. Pack enlisted as a Private in Company D, 22nd Georgia, September 20, 1861. He was wounded at Deep Bottom, Virginia on August 16, 1864. He died of those wounds in Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Virginia October 2, 1864. He was buried there in Hollywood Cemetery.
