James A. Rorex


Joseph Rorex was born in Tennessee about 1814. About 1845 the family moved to Murray County, Georgia.

The Census of 1850 lists the family as follows:

    Joseph, age 36, born in Tenn.;

    Rosa A., age 33, born in Tenn.;

    Sarah J., age 15, born in Tenn.;

    Ann E., age 12, born in Tenn.;

    Nancy A., age 10, born in Tenn.;

    James A. Age 7, born in Tenn.;

    Margaret, age 4, born in Ga.;

    Hudah, age 2, born in Ga.;

    William Harris, age 70, born in Ga.


The Census of 1860 indicates that the family lived in an area served by the post office at Upper Kings Bridge. It also listed the mother's name as Rossy Rorex.

Military records state that J. T. Rorex, enlisted as a Private in Company E, 60th Georgia Infantry, in September 1862. His unit fought at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, September 15-16, 1862, at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, at Shepherdstown, West Virginia, September 19-20, 1862. In December they were at Fredericksburg, Virginia. Several more minor battles before the unit fought at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2-3, 1863.

James Rorex died at Gettysburg, July 1863.
