MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

Francis Marion White

Thomas T. White was born in North Carolina bout 1805. His wife, Mary, was born in Georgia about 1810.

The Murray County Census of 1850 lists their family, in Murray County, Georgia, as:

    Thomas T. White, age 45;

    Mary White, age 40;

    Sophona M. White, age 21;

    John T. White, age 19;

    Mary S. White, age 17;

    William E. White, age 15;

    Harriet E. White, age 13;

    Martha E. White, age 11;

    George W. White, age 9;

    Francis E. White, age 7;

    Francis M. White, age 5;

    Andrew J. White, age 3.

Yes, the Census lists two sons with name of Francis, but having different middle initials.

Because the Census listed the birthplace of the first seven children as Georgia, and the last four as Alabama, the family apparently had lived in Alabama for several years between the 1840 and 1850 Censuses.

Francis Marion White enlisted in the Confederate Army in September 1861. He served as a Sergeant in Company E, 60th Georgia (Lawton's) Brigade. Sgt. White was killed at the 2nd Manassass, Virginia, in fighting August 28-30, 1862.
