MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES

J. Melvin White

J. Melvin White was the son of Daniel and Sarah White. His father and mother were both born in South Carolina. Melvin and a sister named Sarah were both born in Tennessee.

Although it is not know when the family moved to Georgia, The 1850 Census for Murray County, Georgia, listed the family of four as:

    Daniel White, age 63;

    Sarah White, age 62;

    J. M. White, age 25;

    Sarah White, age 19.

It is probable that the family had earlier included other off-spring who were in 1860 living in homes of their own.

J. Melvin White enlisted in the Confederate Army, as a Private in Company D, 22nd Georgia Brigade (Wrights), in August 1861. He died in fighting at Manassass, Virginia (2nd Manassass), August 28-10, 1862.
