Miss Pauline Ogletree
1909-1976

Pauline Ogletree was born February 19, 1909, the daughter of Jefferson T. Ogletree (1889-1956) and Dora E. Ogletree (1886-1969). All three are buried in Spring Place Cemetery.

Pauline graduated from Chatsworth High School. She subsequently taught at Chatsworth High and Lucy Hill High School at Spring Place. She was one of the original faculty members at Murray County High School when it opened in 1934.

Miss Ogletree is credited with selecting the MCHS school colors of green and white. She also was responsible for the Indian theme that became so much a part of the school.

At MCHS she taught business courses, driver's education, and possibly other subjects. She also served as school guidance counselor, helping countless students pursue careers. She sponsored cheerleading and supported numerous other school activities over the years.

Two of her most important activities were the prom and graduation exercises.

She left MCHS to teach at Herrin School of Business, then joined the faculty at Dalton High School, where she taught various English courses.

Miss Ogletree was living in Whitfield County when she died in 1976.

Miss Pauline Ogletree was inducted into the MCHS Alumni Association's Hall of Fame in 2008. Her sister, Phyllis (MCHS Class of 1949), now Mrs. Virgil Bearden, accepted the honor on behalf of the family.
