PICTURES OF MURRAY MEN WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II

Enoch Thomas Davis, son of Virgil C. And Addie R. Davis. Enlisted Dec. 5, 1942. Died from accidental gun shot wound in line of duty near Savannah, Georgia, May 5, 1944. No details found. Buried Sumach Church Cemetery.

John S. Dixon, born 1914. Parents were Henry T. And Millie Dixon. Enlisted in Army at Ft. McPherson, Ga, August 1941. Killed July 26, 1944 but no details of his death were found. A grave marker in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery has info: Private, Co. E, 3rd Regt, 90th Division, US Army. Born May 14, 1914, died July 26, 1944.

William C. Holman, born Aug. 25, 1916, son of William B. and Jessie T. Holman. The 1930 Census showed family living in Cullman, Alabama, but recorded their family name as Holeman. Inducted into Army May 21, 1942, at Ft. McPherson, Ga. While on leave in Chatsworth, Ga, he died in auto accident. Obituary named a wife, Mary Kelly Holman, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters among survivors.

Jesse Willard Patterson, born 1916 in Georgia. 1920 Census listed Jesse, age 13, living with his maternal grandparents, David T. And Aveline Milsap, in Fannin County, Ga. Jesse enlisted in Army, July 17, 1942, at Ft. Jackson, SC, Service # 34129809. No details of his death were found. He died Feb. 21, 1945, and was buried in Summerhour Methodist Church Cemetery in Crandall, Georgia.

Leonard I. Smith, born in 1916 in Georgia. Son of Jim Smith, the family lived in Shuckpen District of Murray County, Ga. He was married and living in Floyd County, Ga. No details of his family. He enlisted in the Army at Ft McPherson, Ga, August 12, 1943, Service # 34827131. Found no details of his death. A grave marker in Eton Cemetery has: Leonard I. Smith, born April 11, 1916, died July 12, 1944.
