WELCOME TO THE GEORGIA EMMA VINING GALLERY

Georgia Emma Vining was born Jan 23, 1869. She was the daughter of Thomas Berry and Barbara Elizabeth (Harris) Vining of Murray County, Georgia. Georgia spent most of her adult life as a patient at Georgia State Hospital in Milledgeville. Her paintings depict her surroundings there. The third painting below is a self-portrait. That she was painting in the late 1800s makes her perhaps Murray's earliest known artist. She never married. She died March 25, 1911, at age 42.
