Green Washington Cain Family


Green Washington Cain was the son of Jacob Cain and Mary Waits, both from North Carolina. Green was born in Jackson, Georgia, in 1816. He was listed in the Censuses of 1840 and 1850 in Hall County, Georgia.

In the 1850s he moved to Murray County, Georgia and was listed there on the Censuses of 1860, 1870, and 1880.

Green W. Cain married Nancy Boyd, February 22, 1838. They had 13 children:

+ Joseph Harlan Cain, born April 22, 1839, died April 24, 1900. Married Nancy Jane Plemons

+ Margaret Jane Cain, born March 1840, died between 1900 and 1910. Married William E. Plemons. William died in the Civil War. Margaret then married Joseph B. Holland, in Murray County, November 7, 1866.

+ William F. Cain, born 1843, died 1864.

+ James C. Cain, born 1845, died 1864. Unsure whether this was the J. C. Cain who served in the 60th Georgia Infantry.

+ George Washington Cain, born September 1846. Married Sarah Elizabeth Holland in Murray County, Georgia, September 1870.

+ Henry Clay Cain, born 1847. Appeared on 1864 Georgia reorginzation of the Georgia Militia, living in Gwinnett County.

+ Bede Caloma Cain, born 1850, died 1893. Married Lydia S. Thompson, January 1874.

+ Richard Delona Cain, born 1850, died Dec. 1895. Married Frances Taver, August 1874, in Murray County.

+ John Robert Cain, born August 1854, died before 1910. Married Luna Mississippi Brown about 1879.

+ Charles E. Cain, born February 1857. Married Emma E. Kilgore.

+ Sarah Elizabeth Cain, born April 1860, died September 1923. Married Felix Joseph Vining, March 1879.

+ Mary Louise Cain, born May 1863, died May 1919. Married Freeman Lafayette Keith in March 1883.

+ Samuel S. Cain, born 1864.
