James Andrew Bryant


James Andrew Bryant (25 March 1823, McMinn, TN; died 9 Sept 1910, Whitfield Co, GA), married 25 April 1848 in McMinn Co, TN, Arrena Williams (born 21 Jan 1829, McMinn Co, TN "or in" NC, died 18 Sept 1919, Whitfield Co, GA). The marriage license "listed" her as Armena and his name spelled James A Briant. Her death certificate lists her birthplace as NC and first name Amy.

They are buried Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery, Whitfield Co, GA. James Andrew was the son of John Wellington Bryant (1772, NC-1846, TN) and Mary Jane Morris (1780, NC-1854, GA). Arrena was the sister of Z. L. Williams, who married James Andrew's sister Dicy Jane Bryant. She was apprenticed to Sylvester Blackwell in October 1838 when her mother died.

1840 Census-Polk Co, TN she was living with the Blackwells; age 11.

1850 Census-Murray Co, GA, Arrena, wife of James A Bryant, age 20 yrs, birthplace, TN.

James and Arrena Bryant received $30.00 on 21 December 1854 and $10.00 on 19 December 1855 as final payments on her mother's estate.

1860 Census-Murray Co, GA, Dist. # 872-P.O. Upper Kings Bridge; Arrena, wife of James Bryant, age 29 yrs. birthplace, TN.

1870 Census-Whitfield Co, GA, Dist. # 629; Arrena, wife of James Bryant, age 41 yrs, keeping house, birthplace, TN.

1880 Census-Whitfield Co, GA, Upper Tenth Dist. # 1294; Arena, wife if James Bryant, age 51, keeping house, birthplace, (?unreadable); unknown where parents are born.

1900 Census-Whitfield Co, GA, Upper Tenth, Cohutta Village; Irena, age 71, birth month & yr Jan1829, married 52 yrs, 12 children, 10 living; birthplace, TN; parents birthplace left blank. She and James were living with son, Thomas C., his wife, Theresa, & his daughter, Mossie M.

1910 Census-Whitfield Co, GA, Upper Tenth Dist. Arnara, age 81, married 62 yrs, 12 children, ? living, birthplace TN, birthplace of father and mother, NC. She and James were living with son, Thomas C, his wife and 4 children, along with Thomas' brother and sister, Drew (widower) and Maude (widow).
