MURRAY COUNTY POETRY

Poems by Murray Poets and Poems About Murray County
LEFT-HANDED DAYS
by
John Homer Luffman
1910-1987

I'VE PICKED UP ARROWHEADS AT TIMES
THOSE DAYS WILL COME, WE'VE HEARD IT SAID,
WHEN EV'RYTHING'S CONFUSIN'-
PERHAPS WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN BED
IF WE HAD HAD OUR CHOOSIN'.
SOMETIMES YOUR FINGERS ARE ALL THUMBS
AND EV'RYTHING'S LEFT-HANDED.
SOMETIMES YOUR TEMPER RISES UP
WHEN PATIENCE IS DEMANDED.
I GUESS THEY COME TO ALL OF US,
OR SO I HAVE DETECTED,
AND IF THEY'VE NEVER COME TO YOU
I'LL GLADLY STAND CORRECTED.
BUT THERE'S SOME CONSOLATION, BUD
IT'S TRUE DOWN TO THE LETTER-
WHEN THINGS HAVE REACHED THE BOTTOM, THEN
THEY'VE BOUND TO GET SOME BETTER!
