MURRAY COUNTY POETRY

Poems by Murray Poets and Poems About Murray County
HE CARES
by
John Homer Luffman
1910-1987

THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED OF THE MASTER
AS BREAKERS ROLLED HIGH ON THE SEA;
LORD, CAREST THOU NOT THAT WE PERISH?
OR MAKES IT NO DIFFERENCE TO THEE?
AND CHRIST WITH A WORD CALMED THE TEMPEST-
THEIR FAITH WAS SO LACKING THERE-
AND EVEN TODAY WE ARE DOUBTING
HIS PROMISED PROTECTION AND CARE.
MORE STORMS ARE INSIDE OF THE MORTAL
THAN ON ALL THE OCEANS TODAY,
THESE, TOO, MAY BE STILLED BY THE MASTER
WHOM WINDS AND THE WEATHER OBEY.
OUR FAITH SHOULD BE STRONGER, THAT'S CERTAIN,
YET WE SHOULD ON HIM E'ER DEPEND
WITH NEVER A DOUBT THAT HE CARETH,
FOR JESUS WILL CARE TO THE END.
