MURRAY COUNTY POETRY

Poems by Murray Poets and Poems About Murray County
TO SEE OURSELVES
by
John Homer Luffman
1910-1987

IF IT COULD BE THAT WE COULD SEE
OURSELVES AS OTHERS VIEW US
WE MIGHT NOT CHANCE A SECOND GLANCE-
ONE LOOK PERHAPS WOULD DO US.
THE THINGS WE DO, PARADING THROUGH
DISPLAYED THAT ALL MAY KNOW IT.
ON DOUBT WOULD MAKE MOST OF US QUAKE,
AND KEEP IT HID - NOT SHOW IT.
BUT OTHERS SEE THE FAULTS IN ME,
BRING THEM TO MY ATTENTION.
AND AS I SCAN MY FELLOW MAN
PERHAPS HIS FAULTS I MENTION.
YES, I'M AFRAID THAT'S HOW WE'RE MADE–
TO OUR OWN FAULTS WE'RE BLINDED
UNTIL WE BY SOME "PERFECT" GUY
ARE OF OUR FAULTS REMINDED.
