MURRAY COUNTY POETRY

Poems by Murray Poets and Poems About Murray County
THOU ART THE MAN
by
John Homer Luffman
1910-1987

"THOU ART THE MAN", A KING WAS TOLD,
WHO DID AN AWFUL DEED.
THE WORDS ARE FROM A PROPHET BOLD-
MORE MEN LIKE HIM WE NEED.

THEY SAY IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
WHEN WE'RE THE GUILTY ONE,
HOWEVER, WE CAN'T SHIFT THE BLAME
WHENE'ER THE DEED IS DONE.

WE LEARNED A SAYING LONG AGO
AND THINK IT TO BE TRUE-
YOU POINT A FINGER AT SOMEONE
AND THREE POINT BACK AT YOU.

"THOU ART THE MAN"- YOU CAN'T ESCAPE
THE CONSEQUENCE FOR SIN,
BUT LET US PRAY THAT MERCY MAY
BE SHOWN TO ERRING MEN.
