BULLETS OVER JORDAN
by
John Homer Luffman
1910-1987

THERE'S FIGHTING ON THE JORDAN
AND THE SEA OF GALILEE
'TWIXT ARABS AND ISRAELI
OF LONG-STANDING EMNITY.
THE MASTER LOVED THE JORDAN,
PEACEFUL WAS THE RIVER'S FLOW
WHEN OFT HE TAUGHT BESIDE IT
IN THOSE DAYS SO LONG AGO.
NOW BULLETS SPLASH THE JORDAN
AND THE GUNBOATS SAIL THE SEA,
AND IS THERE ANY QUESTION
AS TO WHY THESE THINGS SHOULD BE?
'TIL ONE CAN TRUST THE OTHER,
AND 'TIL HATE AND GREED'S NO MORE,
THERE'LL BE NO PEACE ON JORDAN
OR ON ANY OTHER SHORE.
